Today at the Center we welcomed the 1st and 2nd graders! We began the day with a few name games! This really helped the counselors get to know all of the campers name!
After a few name games we moved inside to listen to our director, Aster, talk about the importance of plants! The campers also learned about the parts of the plant, and how a plant makes food! Aster ended the lesson with coloring pages and a short video called
One Seed.
One Seed talked about how a desert can turn into a beautiful forest because of the bravery of one seed! It also went over all the basic needs of seeds. The campers remember what the plant needs by remembering the acronym P.L.A.N.T.S which stands for place, light, air, nutrients, thirsty, soil.
Abbie then went over basic photography principles, and the campers got to take pictures outside! (The pictures they took will appear in the next post :))
Then the campers got to go outside to play kickball! The game ended pretty quickly and many smaller games developed such as catch, freeze tag, and baseball.
For lunch the kids had spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, and garlic bread!
Nurse Kathy then went over the importance of hand washing! She did a demonstration of the correct way to wash ones hands and she also used a black light to show the germs living on all the campers hands!
Next was story time! Abbie and Jenna read
A Seed is Sleepy by Dianne Huttts Aston and Sylvia Long,
Dirt by Steve Tomecek, and
The Tiny Seed by Eric Carie.
After story time Nurse Kathy helped the campers make fruit kabobs!
We then all went outside for a game of dodgeball! The day ended with a brief reflection period!
