Today was another very successful day! We started the day with going outside and giving the kids a tour of the garden. They were able to pick a few things and Aster talked about the importance of giving a plant everything it needs. After this Abbie helped the kids pick mulberries from the tree in the back of the property. Once they got inside the kids watched a few video clips about photosynthesis and how a plant works. Aster then showed them the consequences of not allowing a plant to be in the sun, and she also showed them a bin of decomposers that we've been collecting for about a year. The worms inside of the bin were very large and many of the kids were shocked about how much they were able to decompose!
After this the counselors took the kids outside for a game called Capture the Flag Dodge ball. It kept us very entertained for about an hour. The two teamss ended up tying so that no feelings were hurt!
The engineers from Major Tool & Machine came and did an egg drop with the kids! All of the kids successfully dropped their eggs without breaking them. Only one egg broke and it belonged too one of the engineers!
After the kids had a yummy lunch of taco casserole!
Then the nurses from Community Health taught the kids about the new "My Plate" which replaced the food pyramid this year. After explaining why the pyramid was changed, the nurses talked about the importance of being healthy and staying active!
Aster then took the kids out in the garden where they planted flowers in between many of the plants.
We ended the day with a brief reflection period.
